Course Description
This training consists of two 4-hour sessions. The first part is classroom training with formal lecture, instruction, and a written exam. The second part consists of a hands-on driving course that measures the individual’s ability to operate a specific forklift in a safe manner.

- Hazards you may encounter while operating a powered industrial truck.
- Controls and components common to all powered industrial trucks.
- Identifying and understanding load capacities and control lever functions.
- Pre–shift operator inspections
- Pre–shift operator inspection forms
- Pedestrian safety
- Operating safely on ramps
- How to determine the forklift capacities
- How to determine the “load center”
- What is the “stability triangle” and why is it important
- Safe driving techniques with and without a load
- Safely loading and unloading trailers from a dock
- Proper handling, stacking, loading and unloading methods.
- Specific safety precautions for operating LP (liquid propane), battery, gasoline and diesel powered industrial trucks.
- Propane and gasoline refueling procedures
- Battery charging, watering and safety procedures
- Operate a powered industrial truck safely while negotiating a driving course
Certificates and wallet cards will be issued to attendees who successfully complete both the written test and hands-on driving evaluation.
Course Requirements
Company must provide a forklift capable of passing a pre-operation inspection and an area suitable for setting up a driving course.
Number of participants is limited to 8 per session.
